'Gone to the Dogs'

Tonight we were at Shelbourne Park - the Irish Greyhound Board had been fundraising for Irish Guide Dogs and we went along to a cheque presentation!I loved sitting up on the winning podium with Zeb - an 11 month old poodle in training!

We were ever so slightly distracted by the greyhounds ....
Paddy Ryan from Shelbourne Park presented Melanie Cunningham from Guide Dogs with a cheque for €2,000!
Zeb and I kept an eye on the greyhounds who were just warming up!!

Zeb was quite a character! We both thought this greyhound looked rather good!
Luckily, the little man's dad was not with us, he can lose the run of himself 'betting' sometimes!! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Shelbourne Park - even if I did really want to get out there and race those greyhounds!! My self control was excellent! Just like earlier in the day when we were at Festina Lente in Bray ....
this is the riding stables where the little man has ridden for the past six years. The local council Rathdown-Dun Laoghaire want to re-zone the land for residential use which would mean an end to Festina Lente. RTE1 - our national television station were out to do an interview ... and the little man's mum said a 'few words' to the reporter about the re-zoning issue and the huge negative impact it would have on the stables and all the people who work and ride there! The little man also said a few words .... we'll let you know what happens ......

Thanks again to Paddy Ryan and everyone in Shelbourne Park - we had a great evening - the little man was delighted to watch the greyhounds racing and although they run fast - bet I could run faster - well, okay - maybe not!!!

Heya Clive,
Congratulations to y'all for hauling in the @2K Euros (dad doesn't have our PC font set up to do the little Euro symbol - just $) Like that song says, "you (she) works hard for the money."
Greyhounds are cool. They have a very large rescue effort her in the states. A Greyhound rescue girl lives in our neighborhood. We see her on her morning and evening walks with her mom; she a good looking lass.
They rezoning thing is a favorite of local governments around here because when they rezone for residential from agricultural (rural) they can get a whole lot more property taxes. They can't force existing properties to sell the land or change it's current usage but the tax rates are drastically higher and most property owners end up selling of the land to residential developers. Right now the economic situation around here has stagnated housing developement though and there are more than enough foreclosured properties to supply the little housing demand that exists. A lot a "green" organizations have also sprung up to oppose rezoning changes for denser population developement.

That was a grand contribution from Paddy Ryan, wasn't it? Mom says it must be the Irish blood that brings out the gambler - her father was the same way. It must be so much fun for the little man to get to go to so many wonderful places.

I am sure you would have beaten the greyhounds, but it must make you feel good to know you did the right thing and stayed at the little mans side. You are a dog that I admire. I am always excited to see all the great places you get to visit, you must be quite the celebrity, you and the little man and your Mom

licks and sniffs, Sasha

We hope your mum managed to convince the right people speaking about the rezoning of the stables.
Sounds like those stables mean a lot to a lot of people including the Little man!!
Have a nice day

#1 here: I've been trying to leave a comment for a while but for some reason, your comment window will not come up with the dial-up connection at the cottage!

Great work from the Greyhound people and I hope you can save Festina Lante. Boo to developers!

By the way, I met a beautiful Goldendoodle pup called Max in Nova Scotia. I will put a photo of him at thefirst opportunity!

you are such a good boy, Clive, to participate in all of these fund raising events. you are an excellent assistant dog ambassador. we are a little worried about your poodle friend, Zeb though. even though we are not big on haircuts, we still like to see a poodle that is not too shaggy. we are poodles, after all, and we have to be proud of our beautiful curls.

woofs.

that council sounds about as stupid as Wickla Council. Absolute travesty if it goes ahead. I sent off my objection to the planning last week.
Maybe we should set up an online petition b/w us hey Clive??

You do such a lot of good services to those you love and as an ambassador to let others know of the needs of our special citizens in this world. I worked for 18 years with special children, and I've studied the wonderful things that putting them in contact with dogs and horses can do for them. I really hope and pray that your stables are saved for the sake of the kids!

Aww those Greyhounds are cute, the nice one you mentioned looks just like our cousin Barney who we recently lost :(
You did some super work, collecting cheques then helping little man and his mum appear on the tv - how cool! Such a shame they want to knock the stables down. :(
