Hollypark, her school team were beaten by one point in the Cumann na mbunscol Final yesterday in Croke Park. With gaelic football, scores come so quickly that you can be two points up with a minute to go, and then suddenly the opposition score a goal - and you've lost by one point. A goal equals three points. With the last kick of the game - Mary Way of Christians National School from Cabra won.
Both schools played and fought hard, of course, we felt our school were the better team, we felt the referee should have blown for full-time several minutes before he did - but these are things we're always going to feel in defeat! A last minute goal, literally the last kick of the game .... meant Hollypark lost. For most of the girls, including Sorcha, this is their last year in Hollypark so there won't be the chance to compete in this competition next year.
At the moment, the girls at taking the loss so hard, are so disappointed and upset that its difficult to explain to them that "you can't win all the time but that it's a lesson well learnt for the rest of your lives".
Sorcha and her fellow players leaving the pitch .. ..
There were tears and upset and no more so from the NSLM who couldn't cope with seeing his big sister and her friends so upset!
But the girls still went off and had a post match dinner together and most of all they know that all their teachers, parents, brothers and sisters and most especially canine supporters are proud of them!
To cheer the NSLM up this morning ... we went to post his and mine 'Santa' lists! His concentration was magnificent as he put the letters in the post box!

Losses are hard to take sometimes. But mom said we learn from them. Yea right. Your sister is very athletic, that is great. It must be a lot of fun rooting for her to win.

Hi Clive - aw, that's a shame - it sounded so close, must have been nail-biting stuff to watch! Yup - it's HARD to lose but there's no shame in making it to the final and - as you say - sometimes life's just like that and we have to learn to accept it. Still, knowing this doesn't help at the time! But wow - big sis sure is athletic! Glad you got your list sent to Santa - we're sure he won't let you down! Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Sorcha. I sure you will have plenty more opportunities to win this coming year.

Oh, sounds like a nailbiter game. Glad you were able to get your letters to Santa off.
ReplyDeleteSometimes losses teach more than winning, but you won't know that for years. Wait til next year as they always say.
ReplyDeleteWell, as we say here in the States, "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game!" And we know Sorcha played her heart out, with her two super fans in the stands, rooting her on! (Plus, do you think a team with "Mary" in its name has a special advantage during Christmastime?)
ReplyDeleteHope Santa's busy reading your lists, checking them twice, and putting your names at the top of the "Good Boys" list!
Your pal,
Petey
Losses are always disappointing but they help you understand the thrill of winning too! We are sure that Big Sister has many, many wins in her future!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to "The Postbox"!
That must have been a very exciting game, what a great effort by Sorcha and her teammates.
ReplyDeleteReally sorry that Sorcha's team lost. I hope she is ok soon. At least she has the Christmas holidays to look forward to. The last full week of school won't seem so bad.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is not easy to win all the time and there is always a next time!
ReplyDeleteKisses and hugs

Hey Clive and Family,
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry that Sorcha's team didn't win and we sure expect her to be bitterly disappointed. Later in life she'll probably see the learning experience involved. She can't really appreciate the sweetness of winning without knowing the bitterness of loosing. She should watch this youtube video as it cheers us up when we watch it. It is girls in the 4th through 8th grade from a school district in ohio. They appeared at the Army-Navy basketball game in Annapolis, Maryland on April 9th this year;

Wwe were gals to hear that the NSLM liked our country Santa visit. It must be getting exciting at your house in anticipation.

ReplyDeleteYep.. as much as there is a winner.. there is a loser too. It's a hard lesson to swallow that is true but nothing like a new season for new hopes to snap you out of it. And.... letters to Santa.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments on the Special Olympics. Mom is a vocational rehab counselor and has worked with people with disabilities for years now. Adults now but in the past teenagers. Her past students were all apart of it and It is a wonderful organization. Glad I can help in any way.

that was a hard one to take. what a loss--oh i feel her (and everyone's) pain.
ReplyDeleteA note to the NSLM's sister: you are not a looser until you've decided so!
ReplyDeleteWe love your green post boxes!!
tough to lose and we are sorry for that, but you have to remind Sorcha of all the wins they have had and all the wonderful family fun in seeing her play. Now let's get on to basketball - we LOVE basketball.
