A few weeks ago Murray's Mom was sitting in her car parked at some traffic lights with Murray's sister sitting beside her.
It was a cold, wet miserable afternoon and while they sat there waiting for the lights to turn 'green', an elderly women crossed the road in front of them, hand in hand with her son. Her son was in his 50's and obviously special needs.
Murray's Mom tried to wipe the tears away and the lights changed as they drove on. Sorcha looked at her and exclaimed, "why the sad attitude Mom?"
Murray's Mom said "well, you know looking at that Mom and her son, I can't but think what's down the road for me and Murray. Will I be that tired, worn out looking old woman pulling her son across the road. What will happen to Murray, how many years will I be here to pull him across the road?"
Sorcha tapped her Mom's arm and said, "Mom, you're doing all you can, you'll do it till you can, then it's me. I'll be taking care of Murray, I'll always be there"
Murray's Mom tried to explain all the reasons why she wouldn't need to be, shouldn't be, didn't need to be - but Sorcha said,
"Mom, he's my brother, it's what I will do, period"
Murray's Mom drove on and cried a different set of tears ....
We have never asked that of our daughter, or wanted her to think that Murray should be her responsibility after us but she's made it very clear to us on numerous occasions and again on that rainy afternoon ....
She is one special daugther ....
Murray is one lucky brother .....
